Its fast and nice but just a couple minor issues
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop is nice, its fast, nice graphics, etc. but have a couple issues and with the price of this there shouldn’t be any issues. That is how my luck goes, nothing I buy ever completely works like it’s supposed to. 1) it smudges easily with fingerprints outside and inside (see attached photos). Its not like I do a lot of handling or carrying it around it stays on a table and I only use the keyboard. I don’t know what the interior/exterior is made of but it drives me crazy seeing smudges/fingerprints all over it. I like things to look clean. It’s also hard to clean off the smudges, I used special liquid for monitors/tablet and it wouldn’t come off, had to use a disinfecting wipe and rub hard to got most of it but not all. The battery life is not good – I get about 2 hours out of it before it dies. But its very frustrating when I have to move over and sit by an outlet to charge it. I’m not even using big software, hardware or programs, just shopping online. Im not sure if this is fixable? Guess I’ll need to contact Legion. Although it does charge fast, gets to 100% within 2 hours (and while Im using it) which is nice but having to go sit by an outlet every 2 hours when Im working from home makes it a huge inconvenience. Third the keyboard is hard to see in the evenings, would be great if it lit up. I thought it had this feature, but Ive looked everywhere and can’t find anything for keyboard light. When I restart it, upon boot up, the whole keyboard lights up bright for a couple seconds so I know it does light up. All in all I say go for it, get it~ I did a lot of research and this came out on top. The issues I am having is just a fluke Im sure, with my bad luck.

Great computer for photography.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have only had the Lenovo for a month, but I am very happy so far. I don't use it for gaming. I use it for post production in photography along with Lightroom. I am very happy with the quality of my pictures after Lightroom. The pictures on my computer look great.

Do not buy Lenovo or Legion. it has design defects
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop from Lenovo has many problem. I won't recommend any Legion series or Lenovo. 1. The graphic card has compatibility issues with windows updates and the display will start flickering, blacking out and turning off randomly. Many of my engineering software cannot even detect the graphic card. (all drivers are up to date..) 2. The greatest problem however is the charging port! it will stop working after some times even with subtle and careful use of the laptop. ( I was super careful with this 1200$ investment) Many many people have the same issue! Here is a link of the issue: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Gaming-Laptops/Y540-loose-power-socket/m-p/5048588 3. The quality of webcam of this 1000$+ laptop is bizarre! and the placement of it make it even worst. you would have to buy a separate webcam for sure. 4. the removable film plastics won't come off easily at all and over time it gives it a nasty look. (see the pics) 5. The other design defect is that, you would have a hard time finding which port is which at the back since the dark plastic engraves on the back are hard to read. You would have to bend and look exactly what is what. Do not buy Lenovo or Legion. it has design defects which will not be recalled or fixed or taken care of by Lenovo. Buy anything else.

AWSOME purchase !!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love this gaming laptop y540 legion by Lenovo. Pros : It delivers in all areas. Large screen, feels heavy duty. Vibrant colors. Great speed and performance. I'm not a big gamer, however, I am a simmer and have over 50,000 mods. I did add extra ram which allowed my game to move even better. I am a business owner, and student as well with a hectic work load. This laptop surpassed all my expectations. Cons: the battery is very large and heavy, and after 4 years of great use. The battery port started having trouble keeping a charge or even charging. I had to pay over $200 to have the mother board replaced in order to fix the charger port because unfortunately it was connected to the mother board and that was the only way of fixing it. Got it fixed because it was worth every penny. Great buy

Very short Battery Life
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok so this has some very decent bells and whistles but I highly recommend removing McAfee unless you like their antivirus software (not the best). The battery life is a very low point on this unit. It barely lasted three hours if even that and I wasn’t even playing games or using any software. My first use was just installing software; Adobe CC and Steam. I also upgraded Windows and the NVIDIA GTX1660 TI driver. Battery died shortly there after... I can’t imagine how much juice it will drain just playing a game... I will stress test this and see what happens but if it just drains the battery that quickly then I may consider returning it or reaching out to Lenovo for a solution. Currently it is set to “Balance”. Screen size is nice and is of good quality, NIT rated at 300 seems to be correct as I used this outside in daylight and I could see it very well. Keyboard felt nice with short travel on the keystrokes, track pad is spot on and doesn’t miss a beat. Speakers are actually not shabby at all and give a decent quality sound when playing music. Obviously it’s best to get a headset when gaming anyway. It doesn’t seem slow at all, I can’t wait to edit and render video and play a game or two and see how it performs.

Perfect for my needs. Camera placement is eh
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dope computer. Very fast boot up ~15s. Screen/color is great. Plays games on ultra/very high without issues. It does get pretty hot under heavy use so I suggest getting a fan/cooler. Ssd is pretty fast. Speakers are good. Keyboard is decent, numpad placement is a bit different from what I’m used to but manageable. Fingerprint magnet, though. Trackpad is pretty small, though I personally like the dedicated left/right click buttons. Camera placement is weird. I wouldn’t use it for work related video calls. Dedicated switch for camera is nice I guess. Battery life is not the best but if you’re keeping it plugged in it shouldn’t matter. No regrets.

Hooked!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a Dell G3 during BF week for $694.00 after taxes. I decided to take a risk and exchange it for the Legion Y540 and boy am I glad I did for an extra $300.00 I went from 8gb to 16gb ram, 512gb to 1tb SSD, Intel i5 to Intel i7, 15.6 to 17.3 screen and 60hz to 144z. After playing on 144hz display I have to say I will not be going back to 60hz. I am absolutely enjoying this laptop a lot of people complain about it heating up. A simple fix is to undervolt which I have personally done bringing down the temp by 10+ degree and if you use a cooling pad that will take care of any heating issues. I also added an additional 2.5" 512gb SSD which is very easy to install although be careful when opening the laptop. It is a pull back and out cover thier are two half's one front cover and one back cover. I really enjoy the ports being in the back it's a very sleek looking laptop it is a bit heavy but what do you expect from a 17.3" laptop common sense guys. The number pad does take some getting used to other than that I am more than satisfied with my purchase highly recommend if you can get it on sale.
